The official launch of Lochwinnoch Dementia Friendly Village project took place on Friday 27th April in the Calder Church and was a great success. There was a great turn out from the local community as well as Councillors Bibby and Rodden and David Arthur from Lochwinnoch CC.
The evening commenced with an excellent presentation by Iain Houston from Alzheimer’s Scotland who put
the personal and national issues of dementia in context.
Then followed Julie Twaddle from Dementia Friendly Prestwick who shared some of their experiences of setting up a dementia friendly community.
Loraine and Ron Grey from Playlist for Life presented the background of the playlist based on the experience of Sally Magnusson’s with her mother and dementia and the benefits of music, a very moving and thought provoking presentation.
Continuing in a musical theme we had a rousing fun sing along with the Renfrewshire Carer Centre Choir and Sean and Frank. The company were in full voice!
There was a lovely tea and cakes served after where the attendees could look at the reminiscence table by Julie Gaghan.
Local Councillors Support Dementia Friendly Village…
I attended the Dementia Friendly Village launch on Friday evening and was absolutely blown away (and a wee bit teary too!) to see the work that has already gone into this project. I am certain it will be a definite success and commend all involved. – Councillor Emma Rodden
…it’s heart-warming to give recognition to those villagers who are promoting Lochwinnoch as a Dementia Friendly Village. I fully commend and am fully behind the Lochwinnoch Dementia Friendly Village Project, the official launch of which I attended on the 27th April.
This was an informative and enlightening evening of presentations on how the effects of dementia can be positively managed. This initiative will be invaluable to the community of Lochwinnoch and I hope that it can be replicated in other parts of Renfrewshire. – Councillor Derek Bibby
